Act NOW Before It’s Too Late!!!
You’ve heard that line, but can you finish the sales pitch? “And if you call in the next 30 minutes, we’ll double your order!” Infomercials were born in the ‘80s when President Reagan allowed longer commercials. Thanks for my childhood, Mr. Reagan. The ‘80s gave us Ginsu Knives—they could cut through a penny, y’all! The ‘90s brought the ThighMaster and my favorite, the Ronco Showtime Rotisserie with its iconic line, “Set it and forget it!” Then there’s the Snuggie, the Foreman Grill, and OxiClean—infomercials turned household staples. But the one burned into my brain? The Shake Weight. It made $40 million despite being less effective than a six-minute walk at 3 mph. Hilarious and brilliant marketing.
Now brace yourself. I’m no street preacher, but I am a preacher. And I will be asking you to ACT NOW. You don’t have to come to the front at an altar call or raise your hand with every head bowed and every eye closed. But you should, nonetheless, ACT NOW.
EMS
A 2021 study in the Journal of the American Heart Association examined how over 200,000 stroke patients reached emergency rooms. About 64% used emergency medical services (EMS), while 36% used other transportation. EMS patients faced shorter delays, arriving faster and receiving quicker treatment. As one doctor said, “They arrived early, had prompt evaluation, and received more rapid treatment.” It’s obvious: for a stroke, every second counts. Speed of response and treatment saves lives.
Yet 36%—roughly 72,000 people—didn’t call 911. They didn’t ACT NOW. When asked why, most said they didn’t want to “bother” emergency services or failed to recognize the severity of their symptoms—often leading to worse outcomes.
The spiritual parallel is profound. We need to ACT NOW. Romans 6:23 declares, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Sin isn’t a minor issue, it’s a terminal condition and has eternal consequences. Hebrews 9:27 warns, “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.” Like those 72,000 patients, do we minimize our spiritual crisis? Do we hesitate to “bother” God? Do we ignore sin’s symptoms—pride, anger, lust—because they feel routine? ACT NOW!
Ticket Sales
Have you ever tried to buy tickets online? I feel like I’m in the Wild West, trying to be the fastest gun in town. I didn’t participate in this particular stampede, but Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour clocked over 3.5 billion system requests on Ticketmaster—four times its previous record. Taylor sold 2,000,000 tickets in 30 minutes!
My wife may not be a Swiftie, but she is a Big Mackie fan. That’s what we (I) call people (my wife) who like Tim Mackie and Jon Collins the creaters of the BibleProject. She wanted to see them at this year’s Hutchmoot—a weekend retreat for artists and writers put on by The Rabbit Room in association with musician and author Andrew Peterson. Hutchmoot is a big deal. Unfortunately for us, thousands of others thought so too. Tickets went on sale, and literally two minutes later, our hopes were gunned down. At times, you can’t even wait a minute to think about some decisions. You have to ACT NOW. Though we didn’t act fast enough, I can still think smart. Ulterior motive: we need two tickets.
, my wife and daughter will wash dishes. (Not kidding.)Looking back, do you ever wish you had acted when you had the chance? I’m not really talking about Bitcoins or boyfriends. Think about your sins. What if you had addressed your sin before God at 18 instead of 38? Our lives could have been completely different. How about this: the single greatest impact on your spiritual health is reading the Bible. What if you ACT NOW and commit to read God’s Word? Your spiritual health will be stronger ten years from now as a direct result.
The doctor will see you NOW!
God’s love is boundless. He’s never burdened by our cries—if only we ACT NOW. Jesus says in Luke 5:31–32, “It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” Who is Jesus in this short parable? He’s the doctor. Which means you either think you’re doing well, or you know you’re sick. Only one of those people will ACT NOW. Christ is not playing around, and neither am I. Like an EMS, Jesus rushes to heal. Psalm 34:18 adds, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” His grace is instant.
Will you believe in Jesus and call out for healing. As 1 John 1:9 promises, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Don’t let pride or shame delay you. Like an ambulance racing to a hospital, Jesus rushes to you with mercy.
SO… Don’t wait! ACT NOW. This offer won’t last forever—repent and find His grace today!
Let’s pray…
Lord Jesus, I confess that I’ve often delayed repentance, ignored warning signs, and treated sin like it’s no big deal. But You are the Great Physician, and I believe You rush to heal those who cry out. Help me ACT NOW—turn my heart to You, cleanse me, and strengthen me to walk in grace today.
Thanks for praying! God bless you. We’ll read and pray again next Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
Big Mackie got me.
